World’s First Ultra-High Altitude PV and Energy Storage Power Station Begins Operations in Tibet

October 31, 2024 — In a significant milestone for renewable energy, the world’s first ultra-high altitude and ultra-low temperature grid-connected PV and energy storage station has officially begun operations in Gaize County, Ali District, Tibet. Invested by Tibet Development and Investment Group Co., Ltd., and constructed by China Power Kunming Institute and Power Construction Company Joint Project Department, this project represents a breakthrough in renewable energy technology for high-altitude regions. The project will supply stable, reliable clean energy to Gaize County and surrounding areas, supporting local economic development and improving living conditions for residents.

Located at an elevation of 4,780 meters, the Gaize County PV power station is the first of its kind to operate under such extreme conditions. The project is expected to supply an annual average of 53.03 million kWh of clean energy, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lowering harmful emissions.
