October 30, 2024 — Amprius Technologies, Inc., a pioneer in next-generation lithium-ion batteries, announced today that one of its contract manufacturing partners has officially launched new production lines to support increased SiCore™ battery output. These new lines expand Amprius’ silicon anode battery (SiCore) production capacity to up to 800 MWh annually, marking a significant step in the company’s global manufacturing strategy. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for high-performance silicon anode batteries across various electric mobility applications.

The new production lines have commenced operations at one of Amprius’ contract manufacturing partner facilities, specifically designed to produce Amprius’ SiCore batteries. Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies, along with representatives from the company’s engineering and quality teams, attended the opening ceremony.
Shipments from these lines began in October 2024, fulfilling various customer orders, including the $20 million contract for Light Electric Vehicles announced in September. The facility incorporates state-of-the-art battery manufacturing equipment and processes, including advanced environmental control systems to ensure the highest quality and performance standards for Amprius silicon anode battery chemistry.

“Amprius is rapidly expanding its global manufacturing partnerships to meet the growing demand for our advanced battery technology,” said Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies. “This expanded contract manufacturing arrangement secures gigawatt-hour-scale production capacity for SiCore silicon anode batteries and reinforces our leadership in supplying high-performance batteries for electric mobility.”
This long-term, multi-year agreement with its contract manufacturer is a key part of Amprius’ strategy to secure scalable, high-quality production capacity while minimizing investments and incremental costs. With over 20 years of industry experience and a production capacity expected to exceed 100 GWh by 2025, the partner provides Amprius with the necessary flexibility to meet both current and future high energy density standards.
Since the SiCore platform’s launch in January, demand for large-scale SiCore battery production has surged, prompting Amprius to accelerate capacity expansion. These extended contract manufacturing arrangements will enable Amprius to scale operations efficiently, ensuring customers have access to its industry-leading battery technology. Amprius’ contract manufacturers will provide SiCore batteries in various chemistries and form factors, including 18650 and 21700 cylindrical cells.
