Intertek Awards UL9540B VOC Certificate to Shanghai Pylon Technologies Co., Ltd.’s Energy Storage Product Force H3

Recently, Intertek Group (hereinafter referred to as “Intertek”) awarded the UL9540B VOC certificate to the energy storage product Force H3, developed by Shanghai Pylon Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Pylon Technologies”). This is the first UL9540B certificate issued in China. At the same time, the Force H3 also received the UL9540A VOC certificate issued by Intertek. Obtaining these two certificates indicates that the product complies with the latest fire safety technical requirements for battery energy storage systems in the United States, paving the way for its smooth entry into the North American market. The certification ceremony was held during the RE+ Solar Expo in the United States, attended by Mr. Song Jinping, Vice President of Pylon Technologies, and Mr. Sunny Minhas, Director of Energy and Global Hydrogen at Intertek North America.

The UL 9540B standard, released in June of this year, is the “UL 9540B Outline of Investigation for Large-Scale Fire Testing of Residential Battery Energy Storage Systems.” It aims to meet the needs of North American fire protection agencies for safety testing methods for residential battery energy storage systems. The standard focuses on evaluating the fire propagation characteristics of residential battery energy storage systems and is used in conjunction with UL 9540A to provide a comprehensive evaluation method for safety and fire behavior.

Pylon Technologies is one of the earlier companies in China to engage in and establish a presence in the energy storage sector, with a long-term focus on this field. The company has a comprehensive service advantage with vertical integration across the industry chain and is among the few in China that possess independent R&D and production capabilities for core energy storage components such as cells, modules, and battery management systems. Additionally, it has the capability to design integrated energy storage system solutions.

The Force H3, which has obtained the UL9540B VOC certificate, is widely applicable, flexible in configuration, easy to install, safe, and reliable. It supports remote intelligent control and can meet the needs of different users with higher density, more cycles, higher rates, and larger capacity. Intertek conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the fire safety characteristics of this product based on the latest requirements of UL9540B, focusing on the method for assessing thermal runaway fire propagation in battery energy storage systems. The evaluation confirmed that the product meets the requirements for thermal runaway fire propagation and the technical requirements of large-scale fire testing, providing strong safety assurance for its application in the North American market. It also helps the product gain recognition from local authorities (AHJ).

Sunny Minhas, Director of Energy and Global Hydrogen at Intertek North America, stated:

“The strong collaboration between Intertek and Pylon Technologies in the energy storage sector lays a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two parties. As a global leader in total quality assurance services, Intertek has an extensive network of accredited laboratories worldwide, providing fast and professional one-stop solutions for domestic energy storage companies.
