“Declining Price Gap and Growing Demand Drive Industrial and Commercial Energy Storage Market Expansion”

Title: Domestic Price Spread Between Peak and Off-Peak Hours Driving Growth in Industrial and Commercial Energy Storage Sector

Introduction:
The domestic price gap between peak and off-peak hours is playing a crucial role in the development of energy storage solutions for industrial and commercial sectors. In June 2023, the average price gap in China, based on agent-based pricing, was recorded at RMB 0.69/kWh, slightly lower than the previous year’s figure of RMB 0.70/kWh. This presents an encouraging trend, as the declining price spread indicates more favorable conditions for implementing energy storage solutions. Currently, there are 16 regions in China where the price spread during peak and off-peak hours meets the economically viable threshold of RMB 0.70/kWh, signaling significant opportunities for industrial and commercial energy storage adoption.

Positive Trend in Price Gap:
Compared to May 2023, only Guangxi region witnessed a drop in the price gap below RMB 0.70/kWh. The rest of the regions have either maintained or improved their price spreads, showcasing the growing trend towards favorable economic conditions for energy storage projects. This positive development can be attributed to the implementation of peak tariff mechanisms in various regions, which create incentives for optimizing electricity usage during off-peak hours and contribute to the overall stability of the grid.

Rapid Growth in Household Energy Storage:
The household energy storage market is experiencing rapid growth globally, with the United States and Europe leading the way. In 2022, the global installed capacity of household energy storage reached 15.6GWh, representing a remarkable year-on-year increase of 136%. Europe accounted for over 36% of the total installed capacity, indicating the region’s strong commitment to renewable energy adoption, grid resilience, and energy independence.

Projections for Future Growth:
The trajectory of the global energy storage market is highly promising. It is estimated that the installed capacity of new energy storage will reach 133GWh in 2023, and by 2026, it is projected to reach an astounding 810GWh. This represents a compound annual growth rate of 82% during the period from 2023 to 2026. In terms of regional distribution, the United States, Europe, and China are expected to lead the way, with projected installed capacities of 197GWh, 185GWh, and 310GWh, respectively, by 2026.

Application Scenarios:
In terms of application scenarios, different sectors will contribute to the growth of energy storage installations. By 2026, the installed capacity for Frequency Time Modulation (FTM) storage, industrial and commercial storage, and household storage is anticipated to reach 548GWh, 75GWh, and 187GWh, respectively. This indicates that both large-scale projects and smaller household solutions will play a significant role in the overall expansion of the energy storage market.

Conclusion:
The domestic price gap between peak and off-peak hours is a critical factor driving the development of industrial and commercial energy storage solutions. The declining price spread observed in China indicates the increasing viability and economic attractiveness of energy storage projects. Moreover, the rapid growth of the household energy storage market in the United States and Europe demonstrates the strong consumer demand for decentralized and resilient energy solutions. With projections pointing towards substantial growth in the global energy storage market in the coming years, it is evident that energy storage solutions are set to play a crucial role in achieving a sustainable and resilient energy future.
