Ameresco, Inc., a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, has signed a contract with United Power, an electric cooperative in Colorado, for a major battery energy storage project. The project involves the installation of a 78.3 MW, 313.34 MWh battery storage system across multiple sites within United Power’s service area. This 20-year agreement aims to help United Power effectively balance its load and integrate renewable resources into its operations.

By strategically locating battery arrays throughout the cooperative’s service territory, United Power will be able to store and dispatch power efficiently during periods of high consumption. This will optimize their energy resources, enhance grid resilience, and ensure a reliable electricity supply for their customers.
Ameresco will install four 11.75 MW and four 7.84 MW battery arrays at eight different substation sites owned by United Power, spanning Adams, Broomfield, and Weld counties in Colorado. The batteries will contribute to a more resilient and responsive power system, allowing United Power to incorporate local renewables more efficiently.
The project is expected to be completed and the assets placed in service in 2024. This partnership highlights the growing importance of energy storage in bolstering clean and sustainable power sources, enhancing grid reliability, and fostering a resilient and efficient energy future.
