RECHARGE welcomes new EU Batteries Regulation and pledges support for its implementation

On July 10th, the Council adopted the new EU Batteries Regulation, which aims to regulate the entire life-cycle of batteries placed on the EU market. RECHARGE, an organization representing the advanced rechargeable and lithium batteries industry, welcomes this legislation and pledges to support its successful implementation.

RECHARGE believes that the carbon intensity and due diligence provisions of the regulation have the potential to prevent underperforming batteries from entering the EU market and contribute to the EU’s climate-neutrality and sustainability objectives. The organization also highlights the importance of safety, sustainability, and traceability in the battery value chain.

RECHARGE is particularly interested in the Commission’s guidelines for the implementation of Article 11, which focuses on the removability and replaceability of batteries. The organization will closely follow this work.

RECHARGE emphasizes the need for the regulation to advance decarbonization and the energy transition in the EU. It also aims for the European batteries value chain to become a global leader in sustainability standards.

Moving forward, RECHARGE will continue to play a key role in supporting the development of the battery value chain in Europe. The organization will provide expert input to policymakers to shape secondary acts of the regulation and ensure its proper implementation.
