Envision Energy Wins 120 MW / 240 MWh Battery Storage Contract in France, Advancing European Expansion
Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology innovation, has announced a major step forward in its European energy storage strategy by signing an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) agreement for a 120 MW / 240 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in France. The project, commissioned by Kallista Energy, a leading European renewable energy producer, is located in Saleux in the Hauts-de-France region.

This turnkey energy storage initiative represents Envision Energy’s first independent BESS contract in France, solidifying its presence in a critical European market and reinforcing its commitment to accelerating the energy transition through large-scale, intelligent, and reliable energy infrastructure.
Project Overview: A Turnkey Energy Storage Milestone
The Saleux project will integrate Envision’s advanced Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS), comprising:
- 44 Direct Current (DC) units
- 22 Alternating Current (AC) units
- Proprietary Power Conversion Systems (PCS)
The system will provide essential services to the French power grid managed by RTE (Réseau de Transport d’Électricité), including frequency regulation and reserve market participation. Once operational, the facility will serve as a robust pillar in enhancing grid stability and enabling the seamless integration of more intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
The project is scheduled to begin construction in June 2025, with commercial operations and grid service participation expected shortly thereafter.
Long-Term Support: 14-Year Maintenance Agreement
Beyond project delivery, Envision Energy has also committed to a 14-year Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA), ensuring the system’s optimal performance and reliability over its entire lifecycle. This contract reinforces Envision’s commitment to maintaining a continuous and active presence in the French market — not just as a project executor but as a long-term energy infrastructure partner.
“This project showcases the confidence we have in our energy storage technology and the strength of our partnerships,” said Henry Peng, Senior Vice President and President of Envision Energy’s Latin America and European Region. “We are proud to deliver a fully integrated solution that will help accelerate France’s journey toward grid flexibility and zero-carbon energy.”
Battery Technology Backbone: LFP Cells from AESC
At the heart of the project are Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells — known for their thermal stability, long cycle life, and safety. These will be supplied by AESC, a global battery technology leader headquartered in Japan.
AESC has recently launched a 10 GWh Gigafactory in Douai, also located in Hauts-de-France. The facility went into production in June 2025 and will provide localized, high-quality battery supply for the Saleux project.
This regional synergy between project site and battery production ensures faster delivery, reduced logistics cost, and supports Europe’s ambition to develop resilient and local supply chains for strategic clean energy technologies.
Kallista Energy’s Vision: Storage as a Cornerstone of Renewable Growth
The Saleux project also aligns with Kallista Energy’s broader vision for a clean, flexible, and future-proof energy system in France. As Frédéric Roche, President of Kallista Energy Group, stated:
“With the Saleux project, Kallista Energy adds another building block to the energy ecosystem needed to facilitate the integration of more renewable energy into the grid while ensuring its reliability.”
He also emphasized the need to overcome outdated perceptions:
“We must move beyond the misconception that electricity cannot be stored. Large-scale energy storage is critical to making the shift from fossil fuels a reality.”
Kallista Energy’s ongoing project pipeline includes similar storage initiatives, signaling a growing commitment to leveraging BESS as a core component of its renewable portfolio.
Envision’s Role in Europe’s Storage Transformation
With this project, Envision Energy expands its footprint in Europe’s fast-growing energy storage market, where demand for grid-scale solutions is surging. Envision has already executed several successful deployments across the UK, Germany, and Italy, but the Saleux contract is its first standalone BESS project in France.
Europe’s energy landscape is rapidly evolving, driven by increasing electrification, rising renewables penetration, and regulatory support for flexible, distributed energy systems. Envision’s battery systems are designed with advanced features such as:
- Grid-forming capabilities
- Black start functionality
- Ancillary service support
- Seamless integration with renewable generation assets
These features make Envision’s products ideal for markets like France, where energy decentralization and grid modernization are top priorities.
Strategic Significance: Beyond EPC
The Saleux project is not just another EPC contract — it reflects Envision’s turnkey delivery philosophy and its vision to be a holistic energy partner. By combining technology, manufacturing, system integration, and long-term service, Envision offers a one-stop solution tailored for governments, utilities, and energy developers.
From an economic and geopolitical standpoint, the project also contributes to Europe’s strategic autonomy in energy, supporting the EU’s goal of reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels while building local clean-tech manufacturing capacity.
Conclusion: A Launchpad for Future Growth
The 120 MW / 240 MWh Saleux battery storage project is a landmark for both Envision Energy and France’s energy infrastructure development. As France pushes toward greater renewable integration and net-zero commitments, projects like this will become increasingly essential.
Backed by strong technology, local partnerships, and a long-term vision, Envision Energy is well-positioned to become a major player in Europe’s next-generation energy storage revolution.
As Henry Peng remarked, “France is a key market for us, and our collaboration with Kallista Energy is a strategic milestone in accelerating the global energy transition.”
Through the Saleux project and future deployments, Envision is not only enabling a more reliable and renewable-powered grid but also demonstrating how scalable, safe, and efficient battery storage systems can become a cornerstone of the net-zero energy future.
