On September 18, 2025, Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, announced the signing of a supply agreement with Italian electricity generation company EP Produzione to provide PowerTitan 2.0 solutions for a 100MW/220MWh utility-scale energy storage project in Trapani, Sicily. This agreement not only consolidates Sungrow’s role in supporting the energy transition but also marks PowerTitan 2.0’s first entry into the Italian market, injecting new vitality into Europe’s energy storage industry.

Strategic Partnership Opens New Chapter for Italian Energy Storage
Massimo Bracchi, Country Manager Italy at Sungrow, stated: “We are proud to accompany EP Produzione in this strategic project for Sicily. With PowerTitan 2.0, we are providing a latest-generation ESS platform designed to enable grid reliability and massive integration of renewables for putting forward the energy transition.”
EP Produzione is the Italian electricity generation company of the European energy group Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH), managing approximately 5.2GW of generation capacity through six thermoelectric power plants, making it Italy’s fifth-largest electricity producer. Luca Alippi, CEO of EP Produzione, said: “The agreement with Sungrow represents an important step in our journey towards a more flexible and sustainable energy system. This project in Trapani is the third electrochemical storage project we have launched in Italy. Storage systems are a fundamental component of the technological mix needed for the energy transition, which is why we are working to expand our project pipeline.”
PowerTitan 2.0: Leading Energy Storage Technology Innovation
This 2-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will utilize 44 PowerTitan 2.0 units, becoming one of the largest industrial-scale storage initiatives in southern Italy. The system will help improve grid stability and the integration of renewables in this highly populated region, supporting services such as frequency regulation, peak shaving, and balancing, which is crucial for advancing Italy’s and Europe’s photovoltaic industry development.
PowerTitan 2.0, as Sungrow’s flagship product, adopts the world’s first “AC/DC integrated” structure, combining battery units and PCS into a single cabinet, significantly improving the system’s efficiency, performance, safety, and intelligence. The system features the following outstanding characteristics:
In terms of technical integration, PowerTitan 2.0 features a highly integrated architecture with natively interoperable PCS, BMS, and EMS for faster commissioning and centralized management. The system entirely uses 20-foot standard containers with a back-to-back efficient layout, eliminating the need for PCS, LC equipment, and their maintenance space, reducing land use by 29%.
Regarding performance optimization, liquid cooling technology and high energy density design ensure better performance and lifecycle. Compared to the traditional “one cabinet to one PCS,” AC storage achieves “cluster to one PCS” for the first time, eliminating inter-cluster barrel effects and boosting the system’s full-life cycle discharge by 8%.
Safety-First Design Philosophy
As the top priority for energy storage systems, safety occupies a central position in PowerTitan 2.0’s design. Sungrow conducted the world’s largest BESS burn test for PowerTitan 2.0, enabling exceptional safety for plants. The system ensures that direct current (DC) doesn’t leave the cabinet, minimizing potential hazards. Traditional DC cables, long and exposed, pose significant risks, while PowerTitan 2.0’s design keeps DC confined within the cabinet, with standardized short cables housed in a fully liquid-cooled “air-conditioned space,” mitigating various safety concerns.
Additionally, PowerTitan 2.0’s advanced control functions support grid services and intelligent charge and discharge cycle management, equipped with high-current AI arc-quenching technology that can shut off arcs in milliseconds, safeguarding the entire cabinet’s integrity.
Cost Advantages and Installation Convenience
PowerTitan 2.0’s pioneering technology significantly reduces both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) costs. The all-in-one AC-DC block design with pre-assembled battery modules and PCS ensures seamless integration, significantly reducing installation time. The equipment can be connected to the grid upon arrival, and through self-developed critical equipment stacks such as BMS, PCS, and EMS, the PowerTitan series can complete pre-installation and pre-adjustment before leaving the factory.
PowerTitan 2.0 uses AI biothermal balancing technology, reducing auxiliary power consumption by 45%. The system employs liquid-cooled PACK + liquid-cooled PCS for “full liquid cooling” heat dissipation. With AI biothermal balancing technology, it has fast cooling, micro-cooling, and heating temperature control modes, intelligently switching based on cell temperature, environmental temperature, and operational conditions.
Sungrow’s Strategic Expansion in European Markets
