“RecycLiCo and Nanoramic Labs Collaborate to Establish an Efficient and Sustainable Battery Supply Chain”

RecycLiCo Battery Materials Inc. and Nanoramic Laboratories have formed a strategic partnership with the objective of optimizing the entire life cycle of lithium-ion batteries. This collaboration brings together the unique materials and technologies of both companies to create an efficient and sustainable battery supply chain.

In this collaboration, Nanoramic will provide its discarded Neocarbonix® lithium-ion battery cathode electrodes for testing with RecycLiCo’s proprietary recycling process. These electrodes are known for their high-performance and low-cost nanocarbon mesh binding structure. RecycLiCo’s recycling process has been proven to extract up to 99% of lithium, nickel, manganese, and cobalt from conventional waste cathode materials. The goal of the collaboration is to achieve mutual recognition of the integration of Nanoramic and RecycLiCo technologies in commercial operations.

One of the key advantages of Nanoramic’s electrodes is that they are NMP-free and PVDF-free. This addresses the potential bans on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in lithium-ion batteries. By leveraging RecycLiCo’s expertise in converting waste cathodes into valuable battery-grade materials, both companies aim to “close the loop” by returning the recycled product back to Nanoramic for cell production and further electrochemical analysis.

John Cooley, the Founder of Nanoramic, emphasized the importance of sustainability in their mission to reduce the overall impact of battery manufacturing and usage. He views this partnership with RecycLiCo as a significant step towards achieving that goal. Cooley also highlighted Nanoramic’s growth and unique position in the global market, as they develop transformative technologies that not only offer sustainability benefits but also enable lower cost, faster charging, and higher performing batteries. This, in turn, will encourage more people to transition to electric vehicles, resulting in significant societal benefits.

Zarko Meseldzija, CEO of RecycLiCo, sees this collaboration as a way to position the company at the forefront of battery recycling technology. By working with next-generation cathode materials and demonstrating a closed-loop, sustainable process, RecycLiCo aims to make a substantial contribution to minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices in the industry. Meseldzija expressed delight in working alongside Nanoramic, emphasizing the shared commitment to sustainability between the two companies.

Overall, the collaboration between RecycLiCo and Nanoramic Labs represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of a more sustainable and efficient battery supply chain. By combining their respective expertise and technologies, both companies aim to not only optimize the life cycle of lithium-ion batteries but also contribute to the broader goal of minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices in the industry.
