CLPe, Zoomlion, and Sanroc Partner to Launch Hong Kong’s First Five-Axis Electric Heavy Crane Truck Fleet, Driving Green Construction

A Landmark Collaboration to Accelerate Electric Heavy Truck Adoption and Support Hong Kong’s Carbon Neutrality Goals

Hong Kong – March 23, 2025 – CLPe (The Hongkong and China Gas Company Limited), Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology, and Sanroc International today announced a groundbreaking partnership to introduce Hong Kong’s first fleet of five-axis electric heavy crane trucks. This collaboration will also establish a comprehensive battery leasing, charging, swapping, and maintenance service ecosystem for electric heavy trucks, significantly contributing to the promotion of green transport and supporting the Hong Kong government’s ambitious plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The partnership represents a major step forward in the electrification of Hong Kong’s construction and logistics sectors, traditionally reliant on diesel-powered heavy vehicles. By combining the expertise of CLPe’s energy management capabilities, Zoomlion’s advanced construction machinery technology, and Sanroc’s logistics and transport experience, the three companies aim to create a sustainable and efficient solution for the industry.

Initial Fleet and Comprehensive Service Ecosystem

The initial phase of the project will see the introduction of approximately 80 five-axle electric heavy crane trucks into Hong Kong’s market. These trucks, boasting a robust 38-tonne capacity, are specifically designed for demanding transport and construction applications. Beyond the vehicles themselves, the partners are committed to building a full-service ecosystem that addresses the unique challenges of operating electric heavy trucks. This includes:

  • Battery Leasing: Providing flexible leasing options to reduce upfront investment and simplify fleet management.
  • Charging Services: Leveraging CLPe’s existing charging infrastructure and expanding it to accommodate the needs of electric heavy trucks.
  • Battery Swapping: Implementing a rapid battery swapping process, taking approximately 15 minutes, to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Maintenance Services: Offering comprehensive maintenance and repair services to ensure the long-term reliability and performance of the electric truck fleet.

The full-service ecosystem is slated to be available in the second half of this year, marking a significant milestone for Hong Kong’s transition to a greener transportation landscape.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The five-axis electric heavy crane trucks offer impressive technical specifications, designed to meet the rigorous demands of Hong Kong’s construction sites and logistics operations. Key features include:

  • Capacity: 38 tonnes
  • Range: Approximately 250 km on a single charge
  • Charging Time: 70% charge in approximately one hour
  • Battery Swapping Time: Approximately 15 minutes
  • Configuration: Five-axis design for enhanced maneuverability and stability

“CLPe is deeply committed to promoting the widespread adoption of electric vehicles,” stated Mr. Ringo Ng, Managing Director of CLPe. “Currently, we provide charging services for electric private cars and commercial vehicles in Hong Kong and the Mainland. This collaboration significantly expands our charging business to encompass electric heavy trucks, representing a crucial milestone for Hong Kong in advancing electric transportation and accelerating the development of green construction.”

He further added, “We are delighted to collaborate with a leading Mainland enterprise, Zoomlion, and a Hong Kong-based company, Sanroc, to introduce new productive forces in green transportation from the Mainland, contributing to Hong Kong’s green transformation.”

Synergy and Future Outlook

The partnership leverages the unique strengths of each company. Zoomlion brings its expertise in designing and manufacturing advanced construction machinery, while Sanroc contributes its deep understanding of Hong Kong’s logistics and transport sector. CLPe’s role is pivotal in providing the necessary energy infrastructure and management expertise to support the operation of the electric truck fleet.

The three companies are actively exploring the construction of dedicated battery charging and swapping stations throughout Hong Kong to further enhance the accessibility and convenience of electric heavy truck operation. This initiative underscores their long-term commitment to fostering a sustainable transportation ecosystem.

This collaboration is expected to have a ripple effect across Hong Kong’s construction and logistics industries, encouraging other companies to embrace electric vehicle technology and contributing to the city’s overall sustainability goals. The success of this initial deployment will pave the way for further expansion and the introduction of other electric heavy vehicle solutions.
