CLPe, Zoomlion, and Sanroc Partner to Launch Hong Kong’s First Five-Axis Electric Heavy Crane Truck Fleet

Groundbreaking Collaboration to Drive Green Construction and Support Hong Kong’s Carbon Neutrality Goals

Hong Kong – March 20, 2025 – In a significant step towards a greener future for Hong Kong’s construction and logistics sectors, China Light and Power Hong Kong (CLPe), Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology, and Sanroc International have announced a strategic partnership to introduce the city’s first fleet of five-axis electric heavy crane trucks. The collaboration will also establish a comprehensive battery leasing, charging, swapping, and maintenance service ecosystem, designed to accelerate the adoption of electric heavy trucks and contribute to the Hong Kong government’s ambitious carbon neutrality target by 2050.

This landmark initiative marks a pivotal moment for Hong Kong’s commitment to sustainable development, bringing innovative green technologies and expertise from Mainland China to the city. The partnership leverages the strengths of each company: CLPe’s established energy management and charging infrastructure, Zoomlion’s leadership in heavy machinery manufacturing, and Sanroc International’s expertise in logistics and transport.

First Phase: Introducing a Fleet of 80 Electric Heavy Crane Trucks

The initial phase of the project will see the introduction of approximately 80 five-axis electric heavy crane trucks into Hong Kong’s construction and logistics landscape. These trucks, boasting a robust 38-tonne capacity, are specifically designed for demanding transport and construction applications. A key advantage of these vehicles is their impressive range of approximately 250 kilometers, enabling efficient operation across the city. Furthermore, the trucks can be charged to 70% capacity within just one hour, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. The innovative battery swapping process, taking approximately 15 minutes, further enhances operational efficiency, allowing for rapid turnaround times.

Building a Comprehensive Battery Service Ecosystem

Beyond the introduction of the electric trucks, the partnership is committed to establishing a full-service ecosystem to support their operation and widespread adoption. This includes a one-stop battery leasing program, comprehensive maintenance services, and the development of a network of dedicated charging and battery swapping stations throughout Hong Kong. The “three parties” will pool their expertise in energy management, construction machinery, and logistics to ensure the seamless integration of these services.

“CLPe is committed to promoting the popularization of electric vehicles,” stated Mr. Ringo Ng, Managing Director of CLPe. “Currently, we provide charging services for electric private cars and commercial vehicles in Hong Kong and the Mainland. This collaboration further expands our charging business to electric heavy trucks, marking a significant milestone for Hong Kong in promoting electric transportation and accelerating the development of green construction.”

Mr. Ng emphasized the importance of the partnership, adding: “We are delighted to collaborate with a leading Mainland enterprise, Zoomlion, and a Hong Kong-based company, Sanroc, to introduce new productive forces in green transportation from the Mainland, contributing to Hong Kong’s green transformation.”

Leveraging Expertise for a Sustainable Future

The collaboration represents a significant investment in Hong Kong’s sustainable infrastructure. Zoomlion’s reputation as a leading heavy machinery manufacturer ensures the delivery of high-quality, reliable electric trucks. Sanroc International’s expertise in logistics and transport will be crucial in optimizing the operational efficiency of the fleet and ensuring its seamless integration into existing workflows. CLPe’s established charging infrastructure and energy management capabilities will provide the foundation for a robust and reliable battery service ecosystem.

The development of battery charging and swapping stations is a critical component of the project. These stations will not only provide convenient charging options for the electric heavy crane trucks but will also contribute to the broader development of Hong Kong’s electric vehicle infrastructure. The one-stop battery leasing and maintenance services will further simplify the ownership and operation of electric heavy trucks, reducing barriers to adoption for construction companies and logistics providers.

Timeline and Future Expansion

The full-service ecosystem, encompassing battery leasing, charging, swapping, and maintenance, is expected to be fully operational in the second half of this year. This timeline reflects the partners’ commitment to delivering a comprehensive and integrated solution for electric heavy truck operation in Hong Kong.

Looking ahead, the partners envision expanding the fleet and the network of charging and swapping stations to further accelerate the adoption of electric heavy trucks across Hong Kong. This expansion will be guided by market demand and the evolving needs of the construction and logistics sectors.

The initiative aligns perfectly with the Hong Kong government’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. By embracing electric heavy trucks and establishing a comprehensive battery service ecosystem, the partnership is playing a vital role in reducing carbon emissions and creating a more sustainable future for Hong Kong.
