In September 2023, a total of 6,750 tonnes of manganese (Mn) were deployed onto roads globally in the batteries of all newly sold passenger EVs combined—25% more than the same month the year prior, according to Adamas Intelligence data.
CATL led with 2,405 tonnes of manganese deployed (36%), followed by LG Energy Solution and CALB with 1,650 tonnes (24%) and 763 tonnes (11%) deployed, respectively.
Collectively, the top 3 cell suppliers were responsible for 71% of all manganese deployed in September 2023, up slightly from 70% in September 2022.
Adamas observed that while the popularization of LFP slowed manganese demand growth over the past year, the ongoing introduction of LMFP may soon reverse this trend.
