24M Technologies Delivers Commercial-Size Lithium Metal Battery Cells to Major Automotive OEM, Advancing EV Battery Safety Innovations

24M Technologies has announced the successful delivery of commercial-sized lithium metal battery cells, integrated with its Impervio™ separator and Eternalyte™ electrolyte, to a major automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM). This milestone represents a significant step toward the large-scale production of safer and more reliable electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

A Breakthrough in Battery Safety and Reliability

24M Technologies’ Impervio technology is a transformative battery separator designed to prevent fires by blocking dendrite propagation. The technology controls the cell at the individual electrode level, preventing dendrite growth and enabling early fault detection. The Impervio separator can also monitor the electrochemistry of the cell and act as a failsafe, preventing thermal runaway in the event of a potential short circuit.

Naoki Ota, CEO and President of 24M Technologies, commented: “The growing concerns around battery fire safety must be addressed to ensure widespread adoption of EVs and a more sustainable energy future. This shipment of Impervio-enabled battery cells to a major OEM is a significant first step in restoring consumer confidence that a safer, longer-lasting, and more efficient battery is attainable.”

Seamless Integration into Existing Manufacturing

The Impervio separator works with all battery formats and can easily be integrated into existing manufacturing processes. This means that OEMs can test and incorporate the technology into their facilities without making significant changes to their production lines, whether using conventional battery manufacturing methods or 24M’s SemiSolid™ process. With the available prototypes, OEMs can quickly test these innovations for rapid deployment across the automotive sector.

Driving the Future of Electric Vehicles

In addition to addressing critical safety challenges, 24M is at the forefront of overcoming other barriers to EV adoption. By combining Impervio with other innovations such as Eternalyte™, 24M ETOP™, and Liforever™, 24M aims to enable a new generation of EVs capable of achieving up to 1,000 miles of range with 100% recyclable batteries.
