Global Iron Ore Giant Fortescue Partners with Envision Energy: 132MW Wind Project Sets New Green Transformation Benchmark for Australia

During the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Fortescue, one of the world’s largest iron ore producers, officially announced an ambitious global alliance aimed at accelerating global industrial decarbonization and building the lowest-cost, 24/7 clean energy systems capable of outcompeting fossil fuels. As a key component of this vision, Fortescue has selected Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology, as its strategic partner in wind and energy storage.

Strategic Partnership Opens New Chapter in Australia’s Industrial Decarbonization

Envision Group is a global leader in new energy system technologies, with the mission of “solving challenges for humanity’s sustainable future,” committed to becoming a “zero-carbon technology partner” for global enterprises, governments, and institutions. This collaboration leverages Envision Energy’s expertise in advanced wind turbines, integrated energy solutions, energy storage, and digital energy management to deliver full-chain innovations spanning generation, storage, and grid optimization for Fortescue’s operations electrification.

The core objective of the partnership is clear: to help Fortescue achieve its “Real Zero” target by 2030, eliminating fossil fuel use to achieve Real Zero terrestrial emissions (Scope 1 and 2) across its iron ore operations. Achieving this goal will set a new benchmark in global industrial decarbonization, providing a replicable success model for other heavy industry enterprises.

132MW Wind Project Officially Commences

As a significant milestone in the strategic partnership, Envision Energy and Fortescue have officially signed a 132MW turbine supply agreement for Fortescue’s first major wind project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This project marks a major step forward in Fortescue’s support of eliminating fossil fuel use and achieving zero emissions targets.

The project will deploy Envision’s state-of-the-art EN182-7.8MW smart wind turbines, renowned for their high efficiency and adaptability, paired with 188-meter Nabralift steel towers, the tallest of their kind worldwide. These turbines are specifically designed to maximize energy production in low-wind conditions and withstand extreme weather including cyclones and typhoons, which is particularly important for Australia’s complex and variable climate environment.

The project will be among Australia’s first large-scale deployments of this technology, setting a new benchmark for renewable infrastructure and unlocking greater generation capacity and efficiency. Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly enhance clean energy supply capacity in the Pilbara region, injecting strong green momentum into local industrial development.

Technological Innovation Leading Industry Transformation

Envision Energy’s EN182-7.8MW smart wind turbines brought to the Australian market represent the highest level of current wind power technology. Since its inception, Envision Energy has been a technology company rather than a manufacturing enterprise, consistently focusing on driving renewable energy industry development through technological innovation.

Envision Energy is a global leading smart energy technology service provider, with business covering smart wind turbine R&D and sales, smart wind farm software services, smart energy solutions, and energy internet technology services. The company has deep technical accumulation in the wind power field and is currently China’s second-largest and the world’s fourth-largest wind turbine manufacturer.

The supporting 188-meter Nabralift steel tower technology is equally groundbreaking. This height design not only captures stable wind resources at higher altitudes but also maintains stable power generation performance under complex terrain conditions, which is particularly important for the geographical characteristics of the Pilbara region.

Executive Statements Demonstrate Partnership Commitment

Kane Xu, SVP and President of International Product Line of Envision Energy, commented on the collaboration: “The challenge of climate change is global, but Australia’s energy transition can lead by example. Australia’s abundant wind and solar resources, combined with cross-border collaboration and advanced technology, can create resilient, low-cost energy systems capable of fully replacing fossil fuels in industrial operations.”

He further emphasized: “Our partnership with Fortescue is set to deliver substantial advancements in renewable energy infrastructure, demonstrating how innovation and engineering can reshape the future of energy in hard-to-abate sectors, and setting new benchmarks toward a Real Zero future.”

Dino Otranto, Fortescue Metals and Operations CEO, stated: “The Pilbara has some of the best wind and solar resources in the world. We’re harnessing these to power our operations with renewables – cutting emissions while building an energy system that is reliable and efficient for the long term.”

Comprehensive Decarbonization Plan Gradually Taking Shape

As part of its decarbonization pathway, Fortescue plans to deploy 2-3GW of wind and solar energy generation supported by large-scale battery storage. This renewable power will be transmitted directly into Fortescue’s electrical network through dedicated transmission links.

Fortescue has previously announced plans to invest approximately $6.2 billion over the next 10 years to achieve decarbonization of its iron ore business and stop using fossil fuels in its operations by 2030. This investment plan includes $3.2 billion for building 2-3GW renewable energy generation and storage projects, $1.3 billion for introducing low-carbon vehicles, $900 million for new infrastructure construction, and $800 million for demand response.

According to company projections, by 2030, this $6.2 billion investment will save approximately 700 million liters of diesel and 15 million kilojoule equivalents of natural gas annually, reducing emissions by 3 million tons of CO2 equivalent per year.

Global Significance and Demonstration Effect

Beyond its immediate impact in Australia, this collaboration reinforces both Envision and Fortescue’s positions as global leaders in building resilient, scalable, and sustainable energy systems. The project highlights the strategic role of innovation-driven partnerships in overcoming infrastructure and climate challenges.

The project will become a model for how cutting-edge wind technology can be applied to support clean industrial growth in resource-intensive regions. For other heavy industry enterprises globally facing similar decarbonization challenges, this collaboration model provides valuable experience and technical pathway references.

As global climate change actions continue to deepen, international cooperation like that between Fortescue and Envision Energy will play an increasingly important role. Through the organic combination of technological innovation, capital investment, and international cooperation, the green transformation of traditional heavy industries is moving from vision to reality, contributing significant strength to building a sustainable global economic system.

Industry Impact and Future Prospects

The partnership between Fortescue and Envision Energy represents more than just a commercial agreement; it symbolizes a fundamental shift in how resource-intensive industries approach sustainability. With Fortescue being Australia’s fourth-largest iron ore producer and a major supplier to global steel markets, particularly China, this initiative could influence broader industry practices worldwide.

The Pilbara region, known for hosting some of the world’s largest iron ore deposits, is uniquely positioned to lead this transformation. The region’s exceptional wind and solar resources, combined with its existing industrial infrastructure, create an ideal testing ground for large-scale renewable energy integration in mining operations.

This collaboration also demonstrates the growing importance of China-Australia cooperation in clean energy technologies, despite broader geopolitical tensions. As both countries face mounting pressure to reduce carbon emissions, such partnerships highlight how economic and environmental interests can align to drive meaningful progress toward global climate goals.

The success of this project could accelerate similar initiatives across Australia’s mining sector and inspire other resource-rich regions worldwide to pursue aggressive decarbonization strategies, ultimately contributing to the global transition toward a more sustainable industrial future.
