China to cut short-range EV subsidies

The Chinese government has announced plans to lower many of their electric vehicle subsidies for the year 2019 by about 30% compared to the 2018 regulations, with the goal to completely end these subsidies in 2020. However, EVs with a range over 300 km will receive increased subsidies.

Starting in 2019, electric vehicles with a range of less than 150 km will no longer received subsidies, while midsize and large EVs with a 400 km range were granted a 10% boost to their subsidies.

It is very possible that these regulations will be further adapted as the year progresses, with rumours regarding 2019 policies having started as early as last July. If the Chinese central government decides to cut subsidies further, it is considered highly likely that the communal administrations around the nation will follow suit.
