CATL Unveils World’s First Mass-Produced 9MWh Energy Storage System “TENER Stack” at The Smarter E Europe 2025

On May 7, 2025, at the Battery Energy Storage Europe exhibition in Munich, Germany, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) officially launched TENER Stack, the world’s first mass-producible 9MWh ultra-large capacity energy storage system. The solution achieves breakthroughs in system capacity, deployment flexibility, safety, and transportation efficiency, marking a new era in energy storage technology.

Breakthrough in Capacity, 20% Cost Reduction for Stations

TENER Stack is built on CATL’s high energy-density battery cells, offering zero degradation over five years. Compared with traditional 20-foot container systems, TENER Stack improves volumetric efficiency by 45% and energy density by 50%. Each unit delivers a capacity of 9MWh—enough to charge approximately 150 electric vehicles or power an average German household for six years.

This high-capacity design translates to significant cost savings. For a storage station of 800MWh, TENER Stack requires one-third fewer containers than a typical 6MWh system and improves land use efficiency by 40%, cutting overall construction costs by 20%.

Global Transport Compatibility: “Two in One” Modular Design

To meet global road weight limits of 36 tons, CATL developed a smart “Two in One” modular design. Each half-height unit remains under this limit, complying with transport regulations in 99% of global markets. The split-structure supports multiple standard transport methods, significantly reducing wait times and lowering special transportation costs by 35%.

Its low center of gravity also improves mobility in challenging terrains such as bridges or rural roads—showcasing the solution’s superior structural design.

Enhanced Safety: 2-Hour Fire Resistance & Seismic Resilience

As safety in energy storage systems becomes a growing concern, TENER Stack raises the bar with gas sensors 40% more sensitive, leading to 35% faster system suppression response. A three-layer insulation structure ensures fire resistance for up to 2 hours.

Additionally, the system meets IEEE693 seismic standards, withstanding Level 9 earthquakes and Category 5 hurricanes.
