Magtec secures type approval for 7.5 tonne truck

UK-based engineering firm Magtec has secured GB Small Series Approval for its 7.5-tonne electric truck the MEV75. The truck is designed for last-mile logistics, waste collection and refrigerated deliveries.

Receiving the approval means that the MEV75 will be eligible for the UK government’s plug-in grant. Furthermore, Magtec achieved Conformity of Production (CoP) in vehicle manufacture in 2022. The company also retained its CoP in battery and motor manufacture, which it has held since 2019.

In terms of range and charging capacities, the British company adds that the standard 80kWh version of the MEV75 electric truck has a range of up to 100km, and can charge in four hours. The vehicle battery has a life cycle of up to 10 years.

In 2021, Magtec had expanded production capacities with a new drive system factory in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. This announcement was only briefly preceded by the news that the company was involved in the government-funded project ‘ULTRA‘, which focused on the industrial-scale manufacture of vehicle batteries.

“Securing GB Small Series Approval for our MEV75 is a significant milestone for Magtec. It is evidence of our commitment to UK manufacturing and our support for fleet managers as they move to zero-emission vehicles. Watch this space for more Magtec own-brand electric vehicles to follow soon,” said Louise Atkinson, Homologation Specialist and Vehicle Integration Engineering Manager at Magtec.
